Once a year, the junior high school classes have a special concert in which the students perform English songs. Each class works together for weeks, learning the songs, creating an original dance and making any special props that they might need for the performance. At the concert, all the junior high school students and their parents can watch these performances. This is a very fun and popular event which everybody enjoys. The students really have fun learning new English songs and working together with their classmates.
At Jumonji Junior high school, each year level has one foreign native English speaking teacher who helps that year group. This teacher joins the students at year level school events and on school trips. Because of this, the students have many opportunities outside of regular classes to practice speaking English and are able to make regular contact with non-Japanese people. Because of this, students are able to feel more confident when speaking with people from all over the world, and from this interaction, they can gain a more global perspective.
